Cowes Local Notice to Mariners Issued
Dear Harbour User,
The following Local Notice to Mariners has been issued today:
LOCAL NOTICE TO MARINERS No. 14(T) of 2024
Trinity House Mooring Buoy – Move to New Position
Notice is hereby given that work will commence to remove the old Trinity House Mooring buoy on 04th April. The work will be undertaken by THV Galatea, an 84m multi-purpose buoy tender vessel. The vessel, callsign ‘THV Galatea’, will be monitoring VHF Ch 69 at all times throughout the operation.
Once the old mooring buoy is recovered, the THV Galatea will remain at anchor in the Cowes Triangle until further notice, to prepare the new buoy and commence the laying of it in its new position to the East of the Triangle. The new position will be: 50o 46.188’N, 001o 16.970’W – Please see chartlet below for approximate position. The colour of buoy, the shape and light characteristic will remain the same as the previous buoy (Yellow mooring buoy, Fl Y 5s).
The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) will be notified once the buoy has been laid in the new position but updates to charts and ECDIS systems will not be immediate, so all mariners are advised to navigate with particular caution in the Cowes Triangle.
This local notice to mariners will remain in force until further notice.
