Cowes is globally renowed for yachting and powerboating, has a proud Naval heritage and is maritime gateway to the Isle of Wight. In 1961, newspaper magnet Sir Max Aitken launched the Cowes-Torquay race, introducing offshore powerboat racing to the UK, going on to compete in 1962. The prestigous event has a history of high-profile entrants inclduing Tommy Sopwith, Fiat Boss Gianna Agnelli, Princess Caroline of Monaco's husband Stefano Casiraghi, and famous boat designers Don Aronow, Dick Bertram.
This year is the 60th Cowes-Torquay-Cowes race, with more than 40 boats expected to compete in this 200 mile classic.
